Federal HEERF Funds

Federal funds previously available through HEERF funding have been exhausted and are no longer available. Additionally, emergency grant funding from other sources is extremely limited.

A small amount of emergency grant aid is available through the University Foundation.  Awards are limited to a maximum of $500 and documentation of immediate need should be submitted with the emergency application.  Previous recipients of award funding are not eligible for grant funding due to the limited availability of funds. Awards granted through the University Foundation are only available as direct deposit and may not be applied to your student bill.

If you are facing housing or food insecurity, or other personal/financial hardships, please review the Local and Regional Resources page for additional sources of support.  You may also contact the Dean of Students Office (715-232-1181) or to discuss your situation and for help locating resources near you.

If you are concerned about meeting financial obligations for the Fall 2021 semester, please contact Financial Aid (715-232-1363) or

A Helping Hand in Time of Need

The UW-Stout Student Emergency Fund was created to assist students faced with difficult decisions and challenges based on unexpected financial demands. Emergency situations may include accident, illness, death of a family member, fire damage, temporary housing needs, or some other unexpected extenuating circumstance causing financial hardship. It is assumed that students seeking funding from the emergency fund have exhausted all other resources of financial aid and potential funding.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Student must be currently enrolled at least half-time at UW-Stout
  • Student must have experienced some form of unexpected financial hardship
  • Other possible resources have been considered and are either unavailable or insufficient
  • Student may be asked to provide sufficient documentation of financial hardship

A staff member will review each submitted application and may contact you to discuss your situation or for more information.

Award amounts will vary depending on need and availability of funds.  Awards will typically not exceed $500.
